Week 61 - Crescent Justice
Writing Retreat - Saadadeen & Sulaiman share a thought from their week
Beauty & Justice
You don't really know a person.
Until you live with them.
Travel with them.
For the last three nights.
It’s been my mission.
To get to know my travel companion.
To learn from him.
To observe his traditions.
To analyse his decision making.
And in the past 72 hours.
The amount of noble acts I’ve witnessed - is a madness.
I saw my brother use excess water on the outer area of the kitchen sink to dampen a tissue to remove a stain. The seamless sequence of steps was insane.
I saw my brother pick up abandoned litter from the road every single day, and scope out a bin to place it in, as if it was part of his job description.
In the masjid, I saw him rush to give salaams to elderly gentlemen.
To discover their stories.
Honour their sacrifices.
Give thanks for their role in keeping alight the warmth of our heritage in ancient lands.
I saw my brother see hope in all itinerary plans.
Spread light with a level of sincerity that is hard to comprehend.
My brother is human.
I promise you - he’s human.
He sleeps, eats, breathes just like a human.
So I’m not trying to place him on a pedestal.
But you know them types of people.
Who when you observe from a distance.
Who when you see in their element.
You just can’t help but admire God’s magnificence.
You just can’t help but feel an other-worldly presence.
So after living in close proximity with my companion.
The practical, actionable, takeaway lesson.
Is to try act with beauty and justice in every given situation.
To try facilitate beauty and justice following every test and tribulation.
Because beauty and justice can never be separated.
